Thulhu

Pokéthulhu are adorable eldritch abominations from the icy depths of space. They came into the world at the same time as all other life did, sometime in the early 20th century Earth time. Pokéthulhu do not behave like any creatures in the real world, and are capable of many impossible, and in some cases, indescribable feats that inspire fear in rational human beings. Most adults are very uneasy, if not terrified, around Pokéthulhu, and try to avoid them. Children, however (especially young ones) have no such fear, and many even train them.

Behavior[]

Wild Pokéthulhu live all over the world and behave in many different ways. They are universally carnivorous, and though many have specific tastes, all of them enjoy consuming human souls, saving the bone marrow for dessert. This is enough to terrify any adult, but that doesn't keep kids from chasing them down and catching them. You don't want to be surrounded without thulhu of your own, though, or you're dead.

Game Stats[]

In the Pokéthulhu Adventure Game, thulhu are defined by several stats. Name: Every species of thulhu is known by a common English name, which is frequently a portmanteau of the names of animals and creatures in the Cthulhu Mythos.

Aspects: Every species of thulhu has two aspects. All of its moves are of one of these aspects. Cultists who share an aspect with their thulhu have an easier time training them.

Weakness: Every thulhu has one aspect as its weakness. This can even be one of its own apsects. Thulhu get an extra bonus when attacking each other with moves that their opponents have weaknesses to.

Power and Speed: These numbers range from 1-12 and determine how powerful a thulhu can be when it uses specific attacks.

Hit Points: This number starts between 1 and 12 and can grow infinitely. When a thulhu is hurt in battle, it loses hit points, and will faint (or even die!) when it has no more left.

Attacks: Every thulhu has the same four kinds of attacks (Injure, Dodge, Trap, and Frighten), which each have an aspect and a power rating from 1 to 3.

Experience: When thulhu fight in battles, they gain experience points. When a thulhu gets enough experience points, it levels up, becoming more powerful, and may even devolve into a different form.

Pokéthulhu can only say their names, or parts of their names. Their alien language is very subtle and tonal. Or maybe they're just stupid.
